We're Growing

Join the How to be Human Therapy Practice Team

How to be Human is expanding and we're looking for the right associate therapists to join our team. We are aiming to welcome them in August 2026!

Read more below about who we are looking for and then get in touch with us!

We're currently especially interested in hearing from couples therapists and those with EMDR or trauma-focused training, although we are always open to hearing from excellent, neurodivergent therapists. We are guided by finding the right people rather than a fixed number of spaces.

What you'll get

  • Warm referrals, no marketing required. We handle enquiries, initial bookings and admin, leaving you to focus on the clinical work.
  • A competitive fee split, discussed at interview.
  • Online client payments, which means you get paid automatically and our fee is directly paid. No chasing payments or having to pay invoices at a later date.
  • Client booking and secure notes software system, fully paid for and set up by us.
  • Client contract, GDPR, and intake form already written and sent on your behalf
  • Email templates available to support and enhance your practice
  • Your own practice email address, for use with our clients so you can keep these separate from other emails you use.
  • Diary flexibility, you decide when you work and book sessions with clients
  • Clinical autonomy, you decide what the best course of action is with your clients, not us. This includes being able to say no to any clients you don't feel able to work with.
  • Training and support with our systems, including setting up your practice email and using our software platform
  • Free 15 minute emergency and safeguarding supervision available from Practice Founder and experienced psychotherapist and clinical supervisor, Lorraine
  • Free access to online body doubling admin sessions
  • Free access to our online Professional Book Club
  • A Practice that means it when we say neurodivergent-affirming, including in how we treat our practitioners not just our clients.

What we ask of you

  • A professional and recognised counselling qualification
  • Full membership with a recognised professional body (BACP, NCPS, or similar)
  • Appropriate and professional insurance
  • A minimum of 1.5 hours monthly supervision with an appropriately qualified supervisor (some of this time may be in a group, but at least some must be 1:1)
  • You must identify as neurodivergent yourself and be happy to be described as such on our website. (Self identification is valid)
  • Experience and knowledge of working with neurodivergent clients and how this differs to working with neurotypical clients
  • A belief in and understanding of the social model of disability
  • We'd expect you to be able to take on a minimum of 5 clients a week, though as with any practice, referral numbers can vary and aren't guaranteed.
  • Relevant and recognised post-qualification experience and training in your chosen area (EMDR / trauma / couples work / IFS / etc), if applicable
  • Registered, or willingness to be registered, as self employed
  • Living full time in the UK
  • Experience and / or training in working safely online with clients
  • Have a strong and stable internet connection
  • Understanding of how to use an online secure meeting system
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and secure record keeping
  • No, or extremely small, private practice of your own, with little to no interest in building this up. We are looking for practitioners who want to do the clinical work without having to run their own practice.
  • Ability to (usually) reply to initial enquiries within 24 hours and offer an initial call within a week
  • Offering clients a free initial call of around 15-20 minutes. Usually clients will, understandably, want to have an initial call with the therapist they will be working with. This gives both of you a chance to decide if you feel like a good fit.
  • A willingness to talk to us about concerns or difficulties early, so that we can support you and your clients

Our approach

We work from a social model of neurodivergence, which means we don't pathologise difference, and we expect that to show up in how we talk to clients and to each other. We genuinely value our lived experiences of neurodivergence and difference.

We also try to practise what we ask for. That's why our application process is deliberately flexible (see below). You may not perform best in a written form or by interview and although these elements are still there, you can tell us this and we will understand.

In her career Lorraine has worked with many neurodivergent (and neurotypical) therapists that don't have the energy or motivation to market themselves like she does. This is why How to be Human Therapy Practice was born, she wanted to support as many clients and like-minded practitioners as possible.

How to apply

We would love to see:

  1. A written CV, covering your qualifications, CPD, accreditation and relevant experience.
  2. A covering letter, written or video, whichever suits you better. If written around a page is plenty and if video around 2-3 minutes. Please include what draws you to this kind of work; why How to be Human; and anything about how you work that you'd want us to know. (We are genuinely happy with either format, or even something else as long as it gives us an idea of the questions above.)
  3. Please also let us know which area(s) you are applying for (couples / EMDR / trauma-focused, or more than one if that reflects your practice).

If you meet most of what we're asking for and you're not sure about the rest, apply anyway! We'd rather hear from you.

What happens next

  • As we care most about finding the right person than a deadline, we will review applications on a rolling basis (no fixed closing date).
  • We will update / remove this page when we have enough current associates and reserve the right to do this without notice.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview with Lorraine, Practice Founder.
  • Following a successful first interview applicants will be requested to complete additional tasks, such as:
    • Replying to a sample client enquiry
    • Sending a booking link to Lorraine for their second interview

We care about getting this right. A thorough process at the start means a better fit for everyone; you, us, and the clients you'll go on to work with.

If you would like to apply, or have any questions first, please get in touch at admin@howtobehuman.co.uk

We are looking forward to hearing from you
